How much does a WhatsApp chatbot cost in India?

A WhatsApp chatbot cost in India is not one price. It is four bills: building the bot, Meta's per-message fees, a platform or provider fee, and the ongoing work of tuning it. Our own starting price for an automation setup, which can include a WhatsApp auto-reply, is ₹30,000, and Meta's fees are separate and depend on how many messages you send.

We are an agency, so we have a view on how to read any quote you get: ask which of the four bills it covers. A cheap build with no tuning and an unknown provider fee is not cheap. Below is each bill, what drives it, and a worked monthly formula you can fill in with your own numbers.

What are the four bills?

What is the setup cost for a WhatsApp chatbot in India?

Setup is the one-time cost of building and testing the bot. It is the part an agency quotes, and it moves with scope. A bot that answers ten fixed questions with buttons is a small job. A bot that checks free slots in your calendar, saves details to a CRM and hands over to staff is a bigger one.

Our published prices for AI automation in India are on the AI automation page:

  • Starter, from ₹30,000. One automation in your existing tools, for example lead follow-up, form to CRM or a WhatsApp auto-reply. Includes handover and 30 days of fixes.
  • Growth, ₹75,000 to ₹2,00,000. An AI assistant on your website or WhatsApp, trained on your content, with two to four connected workflows and monitoring.

These are our own prices, not market averages. We are flexible on scope and firm on price: once we agree a number in writing, it does not change. Our WhatsApp chatbot service page shows how the work is organised.

What does Meta charge per WhatsApp message?

Meta charges per delivered message, and the rate depends on the message category and the country of the person receiving it. As of 4 November 2026, Meta's pricing documentation says Meta has billed per message since 1 July 2025, and you pay only for business-to-customer messages that are delivered. Messages customers send you are not charged.

The categories, from the same page:

  • Marketing, utility and authentication templates. Pre-approved messages you can send at any time. Priced per delivered message.
  • Service messages. Your free-form replies inside the 24-hour customer service window. Each business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages a month, and Meta says service messages become chargeable after that from 1 October 2026.
  • Utility messages inside an open window. Also chargeable from 1 October 2026.
  • Free entry point window. Messages are not charged when a customer reaches you through a Click to WhatsApp ad, within that window.

We do not quote rupee rates in this post, because they change. Meta says it may update pricing only on the first day of a quarter, so the next change window is 1 January 2027. The current rates are on Meta's interactive rate card, and the documentation publishes them as downloadable files per currency, INR included.

For the plain-English difference between the WhatsApp Business app and the API, and how templates and opt-in work, read our post on WhatsApp Business app vs API. We will not repeat it here.

What changed for rupee billing in India?

Meta is moving eligible Indian businesses to billing in rupees. Per Meta's pricing page, billing localisation for eligible customers in India launched on 1 January 2026. Eligible customers must migrate all Messaging accounts in their business portfolio to INR by 31 December 2026, and from 1 January 2027 Meta stops delivering messages from non-INR accounts.

What this means for you, in plain terms: if you or your provider set up your WhatsApp account in dollars, ask now whether your account is eligible and when it will move. A bot that suddenly stops delivering on 1 January is a worse surprise than a price change. Eligibility is Meta's rule, so confirm it with your provider and Meta's page.

What is the platform or provider fee?

Most businesses reach the WhatsApp API through a provider, a company that gives you the connection, often a dashboard and a shared inbox. Providers charge in different ways: a monthly plan, a per-message markup on top of Meta's fee, or both. We do not publish a market range because we could not find a neutral, official source for one, and the numbers vary by provider.

Ask every provider three things in writing: the monthly fee, whether they add a markup on Meta's per-message rate, and what happens to your number and message history if you leave. Our post on the Twilio WhatsApp API for business covers one provider.

How do you estimate your monthly WhatsApp bill?

Use a formula, then plug in your own volumes and the rates from Meta's rate card. This is an illustrative example, not a quote.

Monthly Meta fees = (utility templates delivered × utility rate) + (marketing templates delivered × marketing rate) + (service messages beyond the first 1,000 × service rate)

Add your provider's monthly fee and any per-message markup. Then add the cost of tuning.

Illustrative, not a quote: a small clinic or shop

Volumes below are made up to show the method. Replace them with yours. Rates are left as placeholders on purpose: read them from the INR rate card.

ItemIllustrative volume per monthRateCost
Customer chats answered by the bot300 chats, about 6 bot replies each = 1,800 service messages[service rate from rate card](1,800 − 1,000 free) × rate
Booking confirmations and reminders (utility templates)400[utility rate from rate card]400 × rate
Offers to customers who agreed to receive them (marketing templates)200[marketing rate from rate card]200 × rate
Provider plann/a[from your provider's written quote]fixed monthly fee
Tuninga few hours[from your agency's quote]fixed or hourly

Two things stand out. First, the free tier covers some replies but a busy bot passes 1,000 quickly. Second, a reminder and an offer are different categories with their own rates, so they are separate lines. Check the rate card for each.

Counting service messages is where people go wrong: each bot reply counts, not each chat. Design the bot to answer in fewer, clearer messages and your bill falls with no loss to the customer.

If you plan to advertise to get these chats, the Meta Ads management page explains how ads that open a WhatsApp chat work, and the free entry point window can lower the messaging cost for those chats.

What is the ongoing tuning cost?

Tuning is the work of keeping the bot correct as your business changes: new prices, new timings, new questions customers actually ask. A bot that is never updated starts giving out old answers within months. This is the bill people forget, and it is the one that decides whether a bot keeps earning its place.

Review the bot's conversations every month. We can do that under a monitoring plan, or train someone on your team.

Should you choose a no-code tool or an agency?

It depends on how simple your flow is. A short menu with a few fixed answers can often be done with a no-code tool and your own time. An agency makes sense when the bot must connect to your calendar, CRM or payment system, when wrong answers have a cost, or when you do not want to maintain it yourself. If you are weighing this, our post on what to automate first helps you pick a starting point that is worth paying for. For the broader tool-or-custom question, see build vs buy AI.

For a UAE angle with prices in dirhams, our post on WhatsApp chatbots for businesses in the UAE is the companion to this one. For what the API itself is, see the glossary entry on the WhatsApp Business API.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a monthly fee for a WhatsApp chatbot in India?

Usually yes, from at least one of two places: your provider's plan, and Meta's per-message charges once you pass the free service-message tier. Some agencies add a monthly fee for monitoring and tuning. Ask for every recurring charge in writing before you start.

How many WhatsApp messages are free?

As of November 2026, Meta's pricing page gives each business phone number 1,000 free service messages a month, which do not roll over. Template messages are charged per delivered message. Messages sent in a free entry point window from a Click to WhatsApp ad are not charged.

Do I pay Meta or my provider for message fees?

Either, depending on the setup. Some businesses are billed by Meta directly and some through their provider. Ask which applies to you and whether the provider adds a markup to Meta's rate.

Will my WhatsApp chatbot stop working in January 2027?

It could, if your account is eligible for INR billing and has not been moved by 31 December 2026. Meta says it will stop delivering messages from non-INR accounts in that case from 1 January 2027. Ask your provider whether you are eligible and what they have scheduled.

Can a WhatsApp chatbot cost less than the starting price you publish?

A very simple auto-reply set up by yourself in the WhatsApp Business app costs nothing for the app. A bot on the API needs a setup and a provider. If your needs are small, tell us and we will say whether you need us at all.
