Meta ads budget calculator

Plan a Facebook and Instagram ads budget from the result you want. Meta reports cost per 1,000 impressions (CPM) and click-through rate, so the calculator starts there: put in your numbers and see how many impressions and clicks you need, the monthly and daily budget, and the cost of each lead.

In short

How much should you spend on Meta ads?

Enough to buy the clicks that turn into the leads you need. Cost per click = CPM ÷ (1,000 × click-through rate). Then budget = leads ÷ conversion rate × cost per click. For example, at a CPM of 8 and a 1.2% click-through rate, a click costs about 0.67; with a 5% conversion rate, 40 leads need 800 clicks, so around 533 a month. Use your own numbers.

Cost per click
CPM ÷ (1,000 × click-through rate)
Clicks needed
Leads you want ÷ conversion rate
Impressions needed
Clicks ÷ click-through rate
Monthly budget

How to use the meta ads budget calculator well

Where to find your CPM and click-through rate

In Meta Ads Manager, add the columns CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions) and CTR (link click-through rate) to a past campaign, or run a small test for a week. If you have never advertised, run a modest test before committing a big budget: the numbers vary a lot by country, audience and creative, and a test gives you your own.

Use link click-through rate, not all clicks. Likes, profile taps and 'see more' taps are clicks too, but they do not bring anyone to your page.

Creative is the biggest lever on Meta

On Meta nobody searched for you, so the ad has to earn the attention. A stronger hook raises the click-through rate, and a higher click-through rate lowers the cost of every click at the same CPM. In the calculator, move the click-through rate from 1% to 2% and the budget you need halves.

That is why we test several genuinely different ideas (a different angle, person or offer) rather than five versions of the same picture, and keep the ones that people stop for.

Leave room for the algorithm to learn

Meta's delivery system needs results to learn who converts. Very small budgets spread over many ad sets give it too little to learn from. Fewer campaigns with a clear goal, broader audiences and a working Meta Pixel or Conversions API usually give the system more to work with.

Turning clicks into leads

The landing page conversion rate matters as much on Meta as on Google. People arrive from a feed, often on a phone and in a hurry, so the page should repeat the promise from the ad, load fast and ask for very little. For many local businesses a WhatsApp chat or an instant form converts better than a long page; test both.

Questions about meta ads budgets

Short answers to what people ask before they set a budget.

Still have a question?

Thirty minutes with us usually answers everything, including whether we are the right fit.

Work backwards from the leads you want with your own CPM, click-through rate and conversion rate. If you have no numbers yet, run a small test for a week or two, then plan the real budget from what you learn.

CPM is the cost of 1,000 impressions, the times your ad is shown. It depends on the audience, the country, the time of year and how much competition there is for the same people.

A daily budget suits always-on campaigns; a lifetime budget suits campaigns with a fixed end date, such as a launch or a sale. Either way, plan the total from the monthly figure this calculator gives you.

No. The calculator shows ad spend paid to Meta. Management fees are separate; ours are agreed in writing before work starts.
