LocalBusiness markup tells search engines the basics of a business with a physical presence: its name, address, phone number and opening hours. Pick the most specific type that is true for you. A dentist is a Dentist, a law firm is a LegalService, and if nothing fits, LocalBusiness or ProfessionalService is fine. The dropdown lists common types from schema.org.
FAQPage markup describes a page that has a list of questions with one answer each. It only makes sense if those questions and answers are written on the page for visitors to read.
Google's FAQPage structured data documentation carries a notice dated 15 June 2026: "The FAQ rich result feature is no longer shown in Google Search results, as announced in the changelog entry in May 2026." An earlier note dated 8 May 2026 says the feature "will no longer appear in Google Search starting May 7, 2026." So as of November 2026, do not add FAQ markup in the hope of an expanded result in Google.
We still include the FAQ option because the markup is valid schema.org, it describes the page accurately, and other tools may read it. Treat it as a description of the page, not as a way to win space in the results. Check Google's page for the current status before you rely on it.
On Google's LocalBusiness structured data page, the required properties are name and address. Recommended properties include telephone, url, openingHoursSpecification and priceRange. Opening times use a 24-hour format such as 09:00 and 18:00, and a day that closes after midnight can use a closing time earlier than the opening time. This tool follows that format and leaves closed days out.
Include the full address you show to customers, with country code. If you serve customers at their door and have no public shop, a full street address may not apply to you, so check what Google's page says for your case.
The markup must match what visitors see. Google's structured data guidelines say not to mark up content that is not visible to readers of the page, and that markup must be a true representation of the page content. If your phone number or hours change, change them on the page and in the markup together.
Do not add markup for reviews or ratings you cannot show on the page. Always test the page after you paste the script in, with Google's Rich Results Test or the schema.org validator. Valid markup means the syntax is right. It does not mean Google will show anything special.
