Shopify store setup cost in India has two parts: one-off costs to build and launch the store, and monthly costs to keep it running. The monthly plan alone starts at ₹1,499 to ₹1,994 on the Basic plan (as of November 2026), but the plan is rarely the biggest line. Apps, photography and the developer usually matter more.

What are all the costs of a Shopify store in India?
Here is the full list. Where a price comes from an official page, we link it. Where it varies too much to state honestly, we say how to check.

How much does the Shopify plan cost in India?
Shopify lists its plans in rupees. On Shopify's India pricing page, checked on 4 November 2026, the prices were:

Shopify Plus starts at ₹1,75,000 a month and suits large operations. The page also shows a short trial offer, which can change. Prices change too, so use the page, not this table, when you budget.
Which plan do you need? Most new stores begin on Basic. Move up when the lower third-party fee on a higher plan outweighs the higher plan price. That is simple arithmetic: take your monthly card sales, multiply by the fee difference, and compare it with the plan difference.
Example, not a quote. Suppose a store takes ₹3,00,000 a month through a third-party gateway. At 2% that is ₹6,000 in Shopify's extra fee. At 1% on Grow it is ₹3,000, a saving of ₹3,000, but the plan costs more than ₹5,000 extra each month. Basic wins at that volume. The balance tips only when sales are several times higher, so recalculate with your own numbers.
What does the domain and theme cost?
A domain is a yearly fee. Registrars often advertise a low first year, then charge more at renewal, so look at the renewal price. Our guide to choosing a domain name for your business covers what to pick.
Themes can be free or paid, and Shopify's theme store shows the price before you commit. A paid theme is a one-off purchase. The cost that matters more is the work of fitting the theme to your brand and your products, which is what a developer does.
What do payment gateways charge?
Shopify Payments is not available in India, according to Shopify's supported countries page, so you connect a third-party gateway. You then pay two fees on each online card sale: the gateway's rate and Shopify's third-party fee for your plan.
One published example: Razorpay's pricing page shows a standard domestic fee of 2% per successful transaction, plus 18% GST on that fee (as of November 2026). We cite one gateway only as an example. Gateways differ, and large sellers can negotiate. Read the pricing page of the gateway you plan to use.
Cash on delivery is different. Shopify treats it as a manual payment method with no third-party transaction fee, but your courier may charge a COD handling fee. Ask them for it in writing.
What does a developer charge to set up a Shopify store?
It depends on scope: number of products, how custom the design is, markets and currencies, migrations and integrations. Rather than quote a market average we cannot source, here is our own published starting price.
Our Starter online store plan starts from ₹40,000. It covers Shopify setup with a customised theme, up to 50 products loaded, payments and shipping for one market and 30 days of fixes. It does not cover custom theme development, migration from another platform, multi-currency or subscriptions. Larger plans exist on our pricing page. What are the ongoing monthly costs?

A simple formula for your running cost: plan + apps + (monthly card sales × combined fee rate) + marketing + maintenance. Work it out for today's volume and for three times that volume.
Where do people overspend on Shopify?
The usual leaks are these.
- Too many apps. Every app has a fee, and many add code that slows pages. Use built-in Shopify features first, and add an app only when it earns its fee.
- A premium plan too early. Start on Basic unless your volume says otherwise.
- Paid themes bought before the product photos exist. Photos change what a theme needs.
- Overbuilt custom features. A feature nobody asked for still costs money to build and maintain.
- Agency retainers with no scope. Ask what the monthly fee buys, in writing.
Should you budget for marketing too?
Yes. A store that nobody finds earns nothing, and setup is the smaller half of the job. Plan some money for traffic, even if you start small. Our post on how to start an online business in India walks through the order of spending.

Yes, for a small catalogue with a simple theme. Hire help when you need custom design, a migration, several markets or speed work. Doing the first version yourself and bringing in a developer later is a valid route.
What is the cheapest way to start on Shopify?
Start on the Basic plan, use a free or low-cost theme, install only essential apps and shoot your own clear product photos. Avoid paying for features until sales show you need them.
